I only mention products I genuinely support and love so you can be confident I am only recommending products that have been tried and tested by me or my clients.

Anyone who knows me or works with me knows how much I love Kerastase… referring to themselves as the ‘Prada of haircare’ the luxury of this brand is amazing. The science that goes into the products is world leading and once you start using it your hair will thank you for it. The main thing I tell my clients is you do not need a lot of this shampoo, the ingredients mean its more more concentrated therefore does not lather up like most products. If you find it doesn’t lather, DON’T add more, a 10p size is more than enough, simply sprinkle a tiny bit of water into the hair, this will activate it further. Kerastase teach that its more effective to do two small cleanses, the first one removes dirts, grease etc from the hair, the second infuses the products and science deep into the hairs cortex where it creates its magic.

The only downside to the brand is that you kinda have to be fluent in French to understand what your looking at, there’s so much choice its often hard to find which product is best for your hair. Here I have simplified some products for the main hair concerns I get asked about. Post partum ladies keep watch!

Normal to dry hair…

So your hair is not often coloured or no colour at all, its long and slightly dry, use the Orange range also known as Nutritive along with regular trims on the hair and it will feel lovely and easier to manage. We’ve got Bain Satin 1 and 2. Bain Satin 1 is for slightly dry, Bain Satin 2 for dry, sensitised. Follow with the matching conditioner for best results. The product in the tub is a treatment masque, if your feeling boujee buy this swell and use once a week, leaving for 1 hour then rinsing thoroughly for sensational locks.

Coloured hair…

The pink range also known as Relection is for if your hair is tinted, medium and dark brown, your wanting to protect the colour from fading and the condition of your hair too and your not overly concerned about the condition. Kerastase offer this product for both thick and finer hair, no this doesn’t mean it magically creates volume for fine hair, it just means the products are lighter so it doesn’t weigh the hair down. Theres also a non sulphate version, id only recommend this option for extensions clients. Sulphate is just salt, not the devil contrary to how its been turned into something we should avoid. Follow with the matching conditioner for best results. The product in the tub is a treatment masque, if your feeling boujee buy this swell and use once a week, leaving for 1 hour then rinsing thoroughly for sensational locks.

Dull, devitalised hair…

Black range also known as Chronologiste. Smooths down the hairs cuticles making it smoother and shiner. Shampoo then using the masque, after rinsing apply the hair oil throughout the mid lengths and ends then blow-dry. Youll find your hair dries faster and smoother meaning you won’t have to use too much heat, long term this will make your hair healthier and look amazing.

Post partum hair thinning?….

So post partum hair is something I’m crazy passionate about, I could waffle on all day and its the reason i’m training to become a trichologist studying the science of the hair and scalp and want to get to the bottom of this process that happens to the hair after having had a baby. Now this product does not claim to be for hair loss as such, nor is it claiming to make hair grow back, its not that magic! However its one of the only products I would trust that can help, along with the brand Nioxin (another brand for another blog). Densifique, the cream range this daily shampoo is designed for hair experiencing loss of density. Bain Densité strenghtens the hair at the fiber and awakens dormant follicules to give more texture, substance and resilience to the hair. Body and bounce are restored for hair that appears visibly fuller and thicker-looking.  Use shampoo, conditioner or the masque, after rinsing thoroughly apply the mousse to the scalp before doing a killer blow-dry for the perfect full bounce.

Blond Absolutely…

Calling all blondes… is your hair bleached, toned or highlighted?! Bleach is my favourite thing as a hairdresser, its a matter of knowing exactly how to handle it but the results can be out of this world! Please see my article The Truth About Ice White Hair for everything from the science of blonde to the most lovely pastel tones. As it states in the article its abolsutely paramount that blondes look after the condition of the hair.. Not only will the Blond Absolu keep your hair strong and moisturised it will help keep that tone looking icy wifey between visits.. This range comes with a hydrating shampoo, conditioner, masque and a blue shampoo too. Finish using the heat protecting blow-dry cream before drying.

So these are the main hair concerns I get asked about, I can’t stress enough how much I love these products and genuinely believe that if used correctly can work out more economic and effective for your hair. As a professional I believe that the key to amazing hair is maintenance, regular trims not only taking the split ends off the hair but making sure the distribution of weight is correct on the interior of the haircut, this allows the hair to fall more effortlessly meaning it will be easier to blowdry lessening the amount of heat used on the hair.

I hope this helps clarify what should be in your kit.
