My Top Hair Tools

Disclaimer: My blog posts contain affiliate links, this means that at no extra cost to you, I may receive commission on some products mentioned in my blog. I only mention products I genuinely support and love so you can be confident I am only recommending products that have been tried and tested by me or my clients.

Lets face it we have all been in a bit of a rut over the last year, need I say how hard it has been for everyone mentally, emotionally and financially but its probably been even worse for our hair. In a state of survival, home schooling and clinging on to our sanity we couldn’t be blamed for letting ourselves (and our hair) go just a tiny bit. However with a hopeful end in sight, the warmer weather coming and our freedom upon us its time to dust ourselves off and get real about how we want to look in 2021. Hair trends seem to have fallen by the waste side slightly and very little inspiration fashion wise. Im going to focus this blog on us as ladies (and some men), how we can make ourselves feel as good as possible and recommending hair products and tools that arn’t going to hurt your bank account.

Hairdryer

So first of all you should look at the way you dry your hair. As mentioned in a previous post a lot of people think leaving their hair to dry naturally is best for the hair, this is completely not true and over time is actually worse for the hair shaft as the weight of the water in the hair can actually put pressure on the scalp causing flat, thinning hair, read more about this here. So what tools are best for drying the hair? Well obviously a hairdryer but which one? Theres so many hair dryers out there that a lot of people don’t know where to start and can start to feel overwhelmed. I am going to recommend the ones in my opinion that are best, and I am going to provide you with a slightly more economic if your trying to watch your pennies.

Im absolutely loving the GHD Helios Hair Dryer in White. The speed of this dryer is insane and claims to dry your hair 3x faster than most dryers but keeping it smooth and tame thanks to the ionic technology. I personally have a Parlux for my pro kit and they are amazing but Im waiting for it to blow so I can invest in this baby!

Hair Brush

Once you’ve got a hairdryer its all about technique, of course if your limited on time and need to blast dry your hair the hairdryer is going to prevent frizz. However for the days you would like to spend a little more time and effort your going to need a decent hair brush. I personally use YS Park which I know by far in the best brand out there, Japanese made with the most precise technology I pride myself on doing killer blowdries and a lot of it is thanks to my amazing brushes. Boar bristles combined with a plastic tooth are the answer to getting hair so smooth and making it easy to use, I love these brushes too as the handles are specifically designed to make the overall weight of the brush so light so you can get all the right angles without an achy wrist at the end.

Boar bristles have the same structure as our hair. They are able to hold moisture and so can lift away dirt and distribute the oils from your scalp to the ends of your hair. The bristles also gently massage your scalp, increasing blood flow to your hair follicles.

A more affordable option is of course Denman. I found this brush set for a bargain, it provides different sizes and comes with a cute drawstring bag.

Hair Turban

Who doesn’t love a hair turban?! Stepping out of the shower, brush your hair through with your tangle teaser…

Quick Tip: Do not use a brush to comb your hair whilst wet, when your hair is wet it is in its most natural, vulnerable state, to brush will mean your stretching the hair and could potentially cause damage to the hair shaft.

I love the Dock and Bay brand. A hair turban can be used to dry the quicker, whilst moisturising and doing your make up whilst keeping your hair out of the way. They can also be used while you have a treatment mask on. Plus they look super cute.

Tangle Teezer Wet Brush

As previously mentioned only use a TangleTeezer to brush your hair whilst wet. I love this brand with a passion and unfortunately have never found a cheaper alternative to the technology that is in these brushes. The plastic used and placement of the bristles is patented so can not be copied by other brands and this shows in how easily they glide through the hair wet or dry.

I highly recommend for kids too, no more crying and acting like your torturing them whilst trying to get a brush through their hair. Kids today don’t know they are born!

The story behind this brand is that the founder was on Dragon’s Den to try to raise funding for the start up, they actually got rejected by the judges on national TV. To cut a long story short, there is now a Tangle Teezer sold every 3 minutes.

Dyson Air Wrap

This product is something I get asked about all the time off my clients. Is it worth the money? What does it do? How easy is it to use? My honest opinion is that obviously it is amazing, however, its not a robot, you still have to make the effort of learning how to use it, taking fine sections of hair, using the correct styling products, (see my blog about styling here) and just overall making the effort to learn how to get your hair looking and feeling amazing. Theres a million videos on YouTube on how to use it which are really informative and inspiring. The overall verdict is that if you’ve got the spare cash or an amazing person in your life to treat you to it, it will transform your hair routine.

Revlon One Step Styler

When Elle calls a product ‘Game-Changing’, you know that you need it, fast! The Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer and Volumizer gives your hair a volumizing blow-out while styling it at the same time (and in half the time too!). It has a titanium coating on the barrel which helps you achieve long-lasting hairstyles while reducing breakage. With this essential hair product, all you need is one-step to get perfect voluminous hair.

Cloud 9 Hair Straighteners

Im always getting asked what the best straightening irons are and I love recommending Cloud 9. Labelled as the ‘Ferrari of the haircare world’ by OK! Magazine, the Cloud Nine Original Iron has indeed proved itself to be the ‘epitome of luxury and innovation’ (which was the prime objective of the founder of Cloud Nine, who was also the co-founder of GHD). Designed for everyday styling and is perfect for those with finer hair. It heats up within 20 seconds with a variable temperature setting that goes between 100 and 200 degrees. The mineral-infused ceramic plates give your hair a healthy shine, locking in moisture and minimising hair tugging and pulling.

Lily England Straighteners

A more affordable option of straightening irons. Perfect for all hair types these straighteners do exactly what they say, with ceramic plates they will be safer for your hair and help prevent heat damage with their temperature control feature.

The last of my hair tools that will literally change your life is the silk pillowcase. I feel so strongly about this that I’ve done a whole other blog about the benefits of sleeping in silk (check out the blog here). So were talking 100% Mulberry Silk here, not satin. The average grade of silk is 22 momme. I love Slip Silk, the packaging and information on how to look after your pillowcase is perfect and the ultimate girly present to yourself or someone you love. I bought my mum and sister one for Christmas and have nothing but amazing feedback from them, especially my mum who is on the menopause says its changed her whole sleeping pattern but more about that here.
