Frizzy Hair… Perfect Haircare to Keep Your Hair Healthy and Smooth…

Invest in your hair... Its is the crown you never take off..
— Zowie Pointing - InHerKit

I deal with clients on a daily basis who struggle with frizzy hair.. If you find yourself blasting your hair then ‘whizzing’ over the ends with the straighteners to gain some kind of control then you may need to look at a couple of factors that can lead to frizzy hair. A couple of questions to ask yourself:

  • What shampoo and conditioner am I using?

  • When was the last time I had a haircut?

  • What styling products and heat protection am I currently using?

  • How often am I washing my hair?

  • What hairdryer and styling tools am I using?

What shampoo and conditioner am I using?

Shampoo and conditioner is the ultimate haircare you can control your hair in between visits to your hairdresser. The products used when washing your hair is paramount to optimum hair health and can make or break the condition, especially if your hair is colour and you use heat on it.

I highly recommend Redken, it is one of my favourite professional brands and they do exactly what they say they’re going to do.

When was the last time I had a haircut?

Its important to keep your hair healthy and free of split ends. The only way to eliminate split ends is to cut them off. Having your haircut every 6-8 weeks will transform your hair from whispy and thin to blunt and abundant. Not only does it make the ends healthy but having the correct shape within your hair will mean its easier to manage yourself, long term this will mean you won’t feel the need to frazzle your hair with straighteners and it will fall into place naturally once it is cut correctly and with precision.

There are techniques, as hairdressers we use to create shape and fullness to the hair and distributing the weight accordingly. This is scientific with the angles and cutting techniques and most hairdressers train for over 10 years to become experts at cutting.

What styling products and heat protection am I currently using?

If you use a hairdryer and styling tools on your hair then you should be using protection. Too much heat on the hair is one of the main ways to anialate the condition of your hair so its best to keep it to a minimum. Damaged and dry hair can result in frizz hair so to avoid this you can use heat protection before blowdrying and curling or straightening.

How often am I washing my hair?

One question I ask when carrying out a consultation with my clients is how often do you wash your hair. There is no right or wrong answer to this. If your hair is super thick, coarse in texture then washing it every day is just not feasible.

On the other hand if your hair is fine and goes greasy very quickly then your going to feel the need to wash it every day. Id say for finer hair try to get to every other day, the more you wash your hair the more you need to, this is caused by natural oils in the scalp being over produced due to stimulation and products on the scalp.

I have recently discovered something called a co-wash. This gently cleanses the scalp and hair without weighing it down, perfect especially for curly and frizzy hair as it doesn’t overload the hair with product. Check it out below:

What hairdryer and styling tools am I using?

There are so many styling tools out there, they all claim to make your hair easily curl and bounce, the truth is they’re not magic wands. It still takes some effort and skill to use any tool, and this can be time consuming. I have pin pointed the main tools you need, starting with a hairdryer, I love the Cloud Nine AirShot - The power and technology in this is amazing and works for every hair type, I, as a professional use this and love it.

For a super sleek look forget your traditional straighteners, incoming the Loreal Steampod this super modern styling tool will change your whole de-frizz game, smoothing out literally any hair type with ease and uses steam meaning a lot less damage on the hair. The Loreal Steampod can also be used to curl, in the same way you would curl your hair with normal straighteners.

I get asked a lot about curling wands and there are so many to choose from, dependant on how long your hair is and what size curls you prefer it makes sense to choose the size of the barrel based on this, medium is good for all hair types and gives a curl that can be softly brushed out.

Lastly. Lets talk about the Dyson Air Wrap, now this is a bit on the pricier side at face value. However having worked with it and been told by many clients how amazing it is, even I am now sold on it. A built in hairdryer, two different size barrels and one of each for each side of your hair so you can get the curls facing the correct way (away from the face), this package also has a round brush and a flatter paddle style brush, which glides through the hair after being blast dried and smooths the hair immaculately. So even though the price tag is slightly higher, you do get a LOT for your money. Its basically everything you need in order to create different looks for yourself.

As I said before its not a magic wand so education on the best ways to use is highly recommended. There are a lot of videos and pages that specifically teach you how to use it on Instagram and YouTube.

Also you can join my InHerKit exclusive members area where I have an online course on how to blowdry your own hair, this is working with the Dyson Air Wrap and also the Revlon One Styler.
