A Simple Make Up Routine… that works for everyone!

So one thing lockdown has definitely done is calm everything down in hair, beauty and fashion. Were no longer seeing the groomed, made up finish to ladies (and gents) on an every day basis. Lets face it there’s not a lot of point in making yourself up for working from home. My lovely clients and most people I can think of are just about getting a fresh trim and covering those dreaded roots and at the moment it seems everyone is just rather chilled when it comes to self care. Im hoping it doesn’t stay like this but until Boris does his thing were stuck waiting for better times. Until then its SO important to stay looking fresh for our mental health.
Achieving that holiday (sorry not sorry, ha)! glow to the skin, combing your brows, applying some lipgloss can make such a difference and doesn’t have to break the bank and take a lot of time.
I am the queen of make up, Im usually one of those bitches who does a full body pump class with a full face of make up and I swear it doesn’t budge off my face, however in recent months I have found a more natural look and after 31 years can proudly announce Im embracing my freckles!
We all need a few key products to quickly apply and here I share my favourites…
A Gradual Glow
The words fake tan just terrifies most women. The thought of a patchy mud like finish is enough to put anyone off. However used correctly using top products can have you glowing like you’ve just been to the Caribbean. My biggest tip for any kind of fake tan is do your research with product and brand. Iv personally used most brands and love St Tropez, Fake Bake and Bondi Sands.
ALWAYS and I repeat ALWAYS use a mitt and gloves. Foam or spray is the best formula as you can see where you are applying. Start with a gradual tan and something light that you can build up. Here are a few:
Keep The Face Separate….
As a fake tan pro I’d always recommend to use a fake tan specially designed for the face instead of a fully body product. From experience using a fake tan that is too heavy for the delicate skin on the face can result in your face looking way too dark, patchy and it can clog your pores. Fake tan products designed especially for the face are lighter and more moisturising, leaving your with a flawless healthy glow.
My favourites are:
Concealer
So I know we are keeping this simple but concealer really is your best friend! If you don’t use anything else concealer should definitely be in your routine. Used for lightening darker circles under the eyes, hiding any sneaky spots and overall adding dimension and brightness to the face.
Below is a diagram of where concealer can be applied to the face.
Concealer can be applied with a brush, your finger and some of them come with a sponge to help apply. Either way its wise to dab it on then blend making sure its soft.
Brows!
Eyebrows can change your whole face and can add dimension and frame your face amazingly when done correctly. Applying some gel and combing them upwards can drastically complete your natural look. I love Baebrow, the whole brand is gorgeous and the products do exactly what you need them to do without feeling too heavy. Follow them on Instagram here for tutorials on how to create the perfect brow.
Mascara…
So I don’t need to go on about the importance of mascara and I definitely don’t need to tell you how to put it on. I have sought out affordable mascaras across different brands and from my own experience I feel like you get what you pay for. Its all about the wand and the density of the product, sadly cheaper products don’t have that fullness in both and can end up feeling watery and a waste of time and effort. Having said that Im loving the Sky High Mascara from Maybelline.. maybe she is born with it.. ha!
Blusher…
A lovely soft blush can add so much to your face, it looks youthful and healthy and can add dimension to your face in a subtle way. Used along the cheekbones and on the ‘apples’ of your cheeks, here are some gorgeous colours I love.
Highlighter…
Keep calm with this product. A lot of ladies are put off highlighter due to the ‘instagram’ shiny faced beauties we see. The truth is less is certainly more with this and its all about where you put it. Dust along the temples and along the top of the cheeks with a small fan brush for a light soft glow.
Brushes
Workmen and their tools! I’d 100% recommend you get a good set of brushes as an absolute essential, this way you can experiment with all kinds of make up and find what works for you. Iv got brushes that have been in my kit since I was 16, once you find the right tools that feel good, this makes it so much easier to build a simple quick routine.
Clean Your Brushes!
Did you know there can be more germs in your make up brushes than on a toilet seat?! I know! Disgusting! Yes I know its time consuming and effort but lets face it, we can do it whilst watching Netflix. Its so easy to do and your skin will definitely thank you for it. I have discovered (so you don’t have to) the Real Techniques Cleansers which make it SO easy, the cleansing gel and a silicone pad will not only disinfect your brushes but will extend the life of your brushes… I have even made a cute video on exactly how to use.. I know Im sooo good..
Make Up Tutorial
So I am biased but my very own online make up tutorial is if I do say so myself.. very good. I go through absolutely everything from how to prep the skin to putting on false lashes. Downloadable PDFs including exactly what make up products to look for and what tools are best. A close up, step by step course on how to apply concealer, lashes, lipstick, foundation..
