What Should Be In Your Make Up Kit - Concealer and Face Make Up…

As a hair and make up artist I get asked on a daily basis what products are best on the skin, the truth is to create a make up routine that works specifically for you and your skin you need to have a few key products and the right tools to apply, were talking 4 key products to start with, from there you can build your confidence, see what works and what doesn’t..

Here are some of my favourite make up products and tools, I either use these in my personal or professional kit and only recommend products I have tried and tested, although I am affiliated with some brands, I provide unbiased opinions and recommendations within my blog...

Want more information on how to clean your make up brushes and keep your make up as hygienic as possible? Check out my other blog here.

Concealer

First of all you need an amazing concealer, this works to brighten, clear and neutralise the skin tone and applied correctly onto the face will half the amount of foundation needed to get a lovely clear coverage..

My all time favourite is Mac Pro Longwear Concealer

A more affordable option is the Revolution Pro concealer these are highly pigmented for full coverage and are create proof so won’t dry out on the skin, you can find it at Beauty Bay here.

Concealer Brush

In my opinion your never ever going to be able to create a 'make up artist' finish using your hands and fingers as tools. Its controversial but using your hands to apply make up is not great, and gets very messy... To apply concealer its best to use a make up brush, but which one you ask! Its an absolute minefield of brushes, sponges, trowels (hah!) and can be very intimidating when looking for something thats going to make it super easy to apply.

I describe it as a 'flat, compact' style brush, this means the bristles are tightly packed together (as opposed to fluffy and spread out) - I just heard the click in your brain as this makes perfect sense, this makes it perfect to get the product onto the skin.

I love Spectrum their make up brushes are fun, amazing quality and super fun to have in your kit.

Foundation

Having used the correct concealer in all the right places you shouldn’t need to use too much foundation. A soft fluffy brush and a buffing action will leave you will a flawless and bright complexion. Apply foundation using a soft brush blending the product into the concealer.. I love the Charlotte Tilbury Glow foundation as its moisturising, doesn’t dry out and is easy to apply.

Soft Fluffy Foundation Brush

A soft fluffy brush is the best tool for ‘buffing’ product into the skin, using small circular motions you can use minimal product for a soft finish then build coverage up to where you feel comfortable. The spectrum soft brush is perfect for applying foundation..

Face Chart

Below is a face chart clearly demonstrating where each product can be applied, remember you dont need to apply all of the products and its important to find what works for you without feeling it is too much.

Here you can purchase your own face charts to play around with colours and get artistic with the shape of the face…
