Dont Put Your Hair Into Lockdown….

So when the clock struck midnight on the 31st December 2020, I think we were all disappointed when the remnants of 2020 wasn’t miraculously wiped from our memory. Spending what is usually the most miserable month of the year in a national lockdown really isn’t ideal, and its even worse news for our hair. Grey hair rearing their ugly head, ends getting dry from lack of attention and split from not being trimmed and lets face it ‘we haven’t got anywhere to be’ is the most common phrase Ive heard this year.

However, if your anything like me and if your my client, you’ll agree we don’t do our lady maintenance for anybody else, we do it for ourselves. How much better does it make you feel when your hair is fresh, your toes are sparkly and polished, and skin is naturally vibrant from the cute facial you gave yourself the night before.

Here are 5 ways to rescue your hair from lockdown…

Shampoo and Conditioner

Lets face it were not doing a lot with our hair atm. Now more than ever its so important to be looking at what you are washing your hair with. Shampoo and conditioner is paramount for maintaining your hair in between visits to your hairdresser and can make or break (literally) your hair. First of all you need to determine what hair type your have and if you have any concerns with how your hair is looking and feeling. Find a brand you like and stick to it, do research, google is amazing for finding out what others say about a certain product. I absolutely LOVE Kerastase and Olaplex. Head over to my other blogs on Kerastase and Olaplex here.

Weekly Treatment

Hair needs extra moisture from time to time, especially when its spending most of its time in a top knot on the sofa with you. Treat your locks to an intense weekly treatment. Split your hair from the centre of your front hairline to the back of your neck and section from ear to ear, so you have four sections. Work the product onto the mid length ends on each section and when the product is on use a twisting action to infuse it into the hair.

Dont Leave Your Hair To Dry Naturally…

Don't let your hair 'dry naturally' its actually a myth that this is better for it than drying with your hair dryer. Your hair is weakest when its wet!

When hair gets wet, it swells and become weak! Your hair can absorb unto 30 times its own weight in water! This puts pressure on the the structure that keeps your hair intact, causing it to break. The longer your hair stays wet, the more the internal structure of the hair swells and cracks, causing damage to your hair!

Instead gently dry your hair with your dryer on a medium heat setting holding the dryer at least 15cm from your hair!

Purchase A Colour Touch Up Kit…

No matter how bad this lockdown gets, I can never condone ‘box dying’ your hair. Yes I know when the greys come through it can feel awful. I have heard stories of men home bleaching their hair as some kind of lockdown crisis. This is not ok and can actually be quite dangerous for the hair and for your health. Skin testing needs to be done before the application of hair colour for safest results and unless you buy two boxes its impossible to make sure your not going to react to the colour.

This is why I have designed my own InHerKit Hair Hangover Colour Kits. For existing clients I have put together your bespoke colour that I would usually use, this comes in two separate jars, the tint in one and the oxidant in the other, you simply mix these two together with the tint brush included, pop on your gloves also included and apply, I have even included a short simple how to video so you can apply with ease, its like im right there in the room with you! All my clients have been skin tested prior, this is strictly following Loreal Health and Safety Guidelines.

Sleep in silk…

After so much research I genuinely believe everyone should invest in a 100% Mulberry Silk pillowcase. The affects it can have on your hair and skin are endless. The two things that had me convinced was that because of the lack of friction silk has compared to cotton, over time it drastically reduces the amount of frizz and dryness on the hair. The second thing was that they are amazing for controlling your temperature while you sleep, this is amazing news for my menopausal clients, meaning an increase on your sleep…
